stumpys might lack the length,but if they had a long tail they would be one of the biggest skinks,some forms of aspera are huge

Casey - do you know what the SVL of that monster is? I think you're right Richard, I'd bet that the body length of them isn't that far off my bigger guys, but the different species can have a lot of their length in the tail. My biggest is about 25-26", but only about 13-14" of that is body.

asperas grow the longest,even with short tails,some forms any how,the ones i keep are tiny compared to other forms ive seen and had,both in length and bulk,be interesting to see how heavy some forms of aspera are,i should start weighing my animals for future reference

OK, let's see if these display properly.
Hi Katrina, the female asper(a) is just a wee lass. Her name is Coco and she's been hearing all about this fat talk. I got the tape out and held it right next to her. She tried to eat it. She is 14 7/8 inches total length. Her snout-vent length is 11 3/4 inches and her tail is 3 1/8 inches. Today, before feeding, she weighed 1030 grams, up a little from last week. Here she is contemplating whether she should go on a diet. She is very dense (in mass, not thought) but apparently not as much as another aspera on this thread!


My male rugosa measures 17 inches and weighs 1020 grams. He has a much longer tail and is relatively trim compared to Coco. I had him stretched out on my arm while my daughter took pictures. He opened his mouth and went for it. He nearly bit me but I was too quick for him. He's never done this before. Always very mellow. I put him back in his cage and he began pacing around looking a bit irritated. A change in his behavior, any change, is good I think. I took this photo after he settled down.



Maybe he's finally going to do something with his female, who is 15 3/4 inches long and weighs 906 grams. My rugosa are not exactly lightweights either.



By the way, my wife named the aspera "Coco".

naah mate,the 4 stumpys on this page,i can only see 1 head ,the one facing <<<<<<<<that way,the other 3 i see tail,bit of head on your pic,looks like a 3rd of the pic is missing on these pics

I think the site may be cutting off pictures no matter what you are viewing them on now. Before it was just iPad/iPhone, but in this thread they are like that on my laptop too.

The thing with the photos... it's a resolution issue. The forum will only display images at a certain maximum size based on your screen resolution. I make sure to resize anything I post to 72 dpi and no more than 800 pixels wide. Taking the photos straight from a digital camera, I've found them to be huge (they're meant for printing) and they will often get cut off.

I for one am glad that anchietae's photos were cut off. I can't stand how awesome looking his shinglebacks are.
