Please remember that I am 13 and this is extremely hard on me. She's stopped eating again and has lost almost 25 grams. I'm not giving up on choice it's my parents. We're going through a hard time right now and the last thing on our minds is a vet bill.

Phaemas - I understand you are 13. Please remember that many of us on here thought something like this was going to happen. We cautioned you to save up money for potential vet bills. We begged you not to get a second bluey because we weren't sure you could care for one properly. We begged you not to breed them. I remember telling you on two occasions that it might seem like we are being mean, but we only want what is best for your BTS. And we aren't sure that you could provide them with proper care for 20+ years. I told you that the best thing you could do is prove us wrong.

You didn't listen to our advice. You got a second one anyway. And now one is likely dying and it is hard on you because you are 13 and you are going through a hard time and the last thing on your minds is vet bills. Marvin didn't have a choice about coming to live with you. You chose to take her. You chose to not listen to our advice. And now it looks like Marvin might die.

I'm sorry Phaemas - I know this is really mean. I'm extremely disappointed in you. You just proved us all right and the worst part is that Marvin might die because of it. It is hard on you, but Marvin might DIE and she has no one else to depend on but you.

I agree with everything Katrina said. It sounds like you just weren't ready for a pet, let alone two. Pets are a huge responsibility and even adults often times have a hard time taking care of them. Be patient and wait until you're sure you can give an animal the care it deserves before getting a pet.

Vet care unfortunately comes with owning a pet. When you have a pet (or more), you should always be prepared to take it to the vet at any given time. I know things come up, but it's best to have a vet fund for things like this. Often vet bills can be $200+. If your parents aren't willing to spend that on your pet, and you can't save up enough allowance, then it's probably not wise to have one.

She's not trying to rub your face in it. We're thinking of what's best for Marvin, not what's easiest on you. You decided you wanted two skinks, you decided on their care, and it's up to you to not give up when it gets tough, it's also up to you to provide for both those skinks or they'll die and it's no one else's fault besides your own.

Sure, things happen, but it's up to you to provide for your animals in good times and bad. I once had to use a good credit card (had just got it, worth $1000) on just my cat when she was sick. I could have left her to die, but it was my choice to adopt another cat, and so I had to pay $900 for her vet care. She's now 8 years old, and a healthy happy cat.

If you buy an animal, it's up to you to care for them no matter what you have to sacrifice. I worked double shifts, and took extra hours when my car broke down. I COULD have just you know, stopped feeding all my snakes every week and maybe fed them every 2-3 weeks, they'd have been ok.....but that's not optimal care, and if I did that then I couldn't justify having them at all if I couldn't afford to feed them every week, so I worked.

You do whatever you have to for your animals. Even when it's hard.
Maybe you're too young to have two animals on your own, when you don't even have a stable paying job. But you made that choice.

Oh god! I just found marvin passed out in the bath tub durning her steaming........I think she climbed out of her tub and fell... I found her and grabbed her, took her to the sink and held her upside down water came flooding out her nose and mouth...She wasn't breathing thats when I decided to preform CPR and mouth to mouth... She came back and almost bit my lip. Right now she's sitting on my lap in a towel...

I don't think these "steamings" are doing any good. I'd stop. Now.

How are you steaming? I've heard of nebulizing helping, but that can't be done without a nebulizing machine, can't just be steam in the bathroom. I don't think super high humidity is helpful at all.

It sounds like you are just putting him in a bowl with hot water and leaving them unsupervised. Don't leave them unsupervised esspecially when it is extremely sick! How much water came out of him, and how did you preform C.P.R?

She was in a tub in about an inch of warm water with a towel covering her tub.. I'm stopping the steaming now. I don't think I could do it again after this...The reason i'm steaming is because thats what the vet reccomended to do...

I opened her mouth a tiny bit and blew lightly into her mouth and nose one breath pumped her cheast-lung area about two times blew again help upside down blew into her nose and thats when she came back. At first about 2 table spoons or less of water came out. after that just purple blueberry water bits.

I think the steaming was recommended by the vet - so she should keep following the vet's advice, but while supervising at ALL times.

Phaemas- Why dont you have your mom log back into this site so we can talk with an adult directly. She was so eager about learning how to breed, she should be just as eager to listen to what we have to say about saving Marvin.

My only other advice is to rehome your other animals ASAP including turning Marvin over to someone who is capable of providing financially for his vet care.

extremely hard when one set of parents HATE reptiles and the other set are never home. I have a 20$ allowance wich I get ripped off every week because my mom never pays me or my brother.

Phaemas, If you are not getting enough support, perhaps you should wait until you move out(or get a job) before getting a reptile(or any pet, for that matter). I know it's a long time to wait, but it could really be what's best, and you will have matured by then.
