Theo - 10 months later

Postby TapaidhNaomh » Sun May 15, 2011 6:30 pm

So, I thought it would be fun to juxtapose a selection of pictures I took of Theo my second day of having him (roughly a few weeks after he was hatch) against pictures I took just today, roughly 10 months later.

As such, here is Theo on my second day of owning him. These were some of the first pictures I posted of him, so I used my cellphone as a reference:

Now here he is as he appears today:

Now, we have Theo in the palm of my hand when he was a new acquisition:
Image

He wouldn't hold still today, but this gives you sort of a perspective on how large he is now:

And now here is just a random photo of Theo in profile today:
Image

Also, a friend of mine wanted to hold Theo, and before she knew it he was in her hair:

Which is something he seems to like doing, as evidenced by this shot of him doing the same thing to my girlfriend a few months ago:

Theo is so cute! I often look backs at pictures of Coomassie when I brought him home to now, almost a year later. They grow up so fast!

It really is quite spectacular how quickly they grow. I was gone for Easter, only for the weekend, and by the time I got back I swear he had grown about two inches.
Still, its not til you look back that your realize just how much he's really grown.

Yea, he gets bigger by the day. Even more intense, his appetite seems to have doubled in the last month as well, so I think I've not see the end of his most recent growth spurts, either.

If it gets warm enough here today I'm going to take him outside to frolic, so I might post some more pictures of him. If not, I'll get more up as the summer progresses.

Theo is absolutely beautiful, but I'm a bit worried about his hips/tail looking so skinny. Have you had him checked for parasites? He's growing beautifully, but just looks too skinny to me.

yeah they grow crazy fast! Baneling grew 4 inches in a month! I was shocked!
Zergling likes to be in hair too, much to my chagrin...she'll climb right up my braid and just park on top of my head. *Sigh*

Agreed completely! Looks absolutely gorgeous, but also looks a bit skinny to me. A fecal check for parasites is easy and inexpensive.

When I first got him a lot of people said his narrow hips were a reason to get a fecal, so I did. Nothing showed then, but if his hips still seem narrow, I suppose I can do another. I'll let you all know what the world is.

Also, anyone want to venture a guess as to his specific species now? Back then some people took guesses, but I was thinking now that we was older and more developed the guesses could be made with a bit more certainty.

How much protein are you feeding? What are you feeding? Maybe you can add a bit more protein (quality canned dog food is a good choice) and maybe feed a bit more and see if that helps. If his diet it good and he is eating lots but not gaining weight then another fecal check would be a good idea. :D

I am feeding him a base of kale greens with random fruit mixed in to give variety. As a binder for this mess of food I use a spoonful of Spot's Stew cat food (as this site recommends.)

I also am thinking about giving him a pinky today to see how he takes to it.

Spots Stew is great - I'd mix up the veggies though. Kale is good occasionally but high in goitrogens. Can you add in some other greens or veggies for variety? Maybe dandelion, arugula, endive, green beans, squash? Things like that. Go easy on the fruit - it is just a sugary treat, so no more than 10%. I'd be sure to supplement calcium as well. :D

To add weight, just feed more, and maybe feed more of the cat food - around 60% or so. Good luck!
