Hello, has anyone seen gigas species with eye bands? I came across a merauke with black eye bands and thought it to be a bit strange. Hybrid?
Thanks-
Justin

Yes they are usually IJ's though. I have seen 1 maybe 2 meruakes with it though. Pics? I dont really think Its a hybrid the correct term would be intergrade. But still doubt it. Is it this http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php? ... &de=849284? If so this is an IJ.

Okay, thanks. No, I knew that one was IJ and I have seen several IJ's with them but never a merauke. The one Im referring to is on fauna, it has solid black bands like you would see on a eastern of the right locale. The pic is terrible but you can clearly see them. Sorry, I haven't read how to post classified pics on here yet.
Thanks

Actually if it were a scincoides/gigas mix, it would be a hybrid. IMO, if your going to try and correct someone over petty things, you might want to make sure youre 100% correct.

The guy is supposed to be sending me clearer pics, so I may be interested in getting this girl if she appears healthy (even though it kinda' looks WC) and isn't a intergrade as i have a thing for eye bands lol. She doesn't look pretty but the eye bands get me. It is only a couple hours from me so that is good.

Looks more like an Indo to me, but the photo is pretty bad.

I would agree with Katrina, pure gigas and gigas subspecies can have eyebands as well. About 10-20% of the Meraukes I have personally examined have eyebands. These are usually the "Ugly Phase" dark, muddy animals. None of the skinks I own currently have eyebands, but this one from last year did. Unfortunately this is one of the only pics I have of it, but you get the idea.
