Tell me

Postby MoannaMonster » Thu May 05, 2011 11:23 pm

what you think. Is my baby girl a mixed breed? I paid nothing for her & am not planning on breeding. Just wondering for the sake of my own curiosity what her specie(s) is. Her name is Aoi. She's my baby girl. Got her from a pet store 2 years ago. She was already almost fully grown.

Nope, she's a Northern (Tiliqua Scincoides Intermedia).

Looks like she's had some shedding issues with her toes, but she looks to be a healthy size and very pretty.

Thanks for the answers. She's docile and sweet and my the newest love of my life. :) I had never seen or heard of blue tongue skinks before I got my girl by luck & chance. I had only owned one lizard before (a green iguana some 15 years ago who passed away after 4 short years). Thankfully my bf had experience with many a reptiles & we were able to find a book at the library too. Sad that I didn't find this site until about a year ago. Even then, it took me this long to join. I guess that would make me lurker(?). My curiosity got the better of me though and I had to post. Hope to get more pix soon. :)

Nope. He knows what he did.

In all honesty, we shouldn't give Jeff too much of a hard time. He is one year older now and you know what they say about the mind being the first thing to go.

To clarify - Jeff and others were just joking.

Except Ali:

 I feel like I'm in the middle of a hazing for newbs.
I was inclined to believe Katrina as she is a Moderator & there is nothing about Southerns on here; but then Jeff's title was also Mod & I started to wonder all over again. :? Oh well. Like I said, I'm not breeding her or anything, just was curious. At least I know now that she's Northern, regardless of whether or not Southern is a type & also part of what she is. :) Certainly a lot easier & cheaper to just post pix and ask then do dna testing like they do for mutts & mixed breed dogs now.

Sorry - no hazing intended!

You're right, the Southern part was a joke. Some people didn't understand that he was joking. She is Northern and a great looking one.

:) Glad I wasn't the only one confused by the joke. I'm not going to say how long I tried to look up Southern Skinks here & elsewhere online. Too funny (now that I'm in on the joke) :)

Grumpy Old Man here, to put the final nail on the coffin, it's 100% a Northern (Tiliqua scincoides intermedia).

:grump:

P.S. But just to keep things interesting, Jeff and I are secretly working on a new subspecies that we're planning to call Southern.

Blotched are already known as the southern blue tongued skink...

Although....I've only heard someone call them that twice, and I only read about it in other places.
