I'd say no to mushrooms because of the high phosporous, but also because I've read that mushrooms have an unknown toxicity to lizards.

Dairy just doesn't seem that 'natural' to me so I'd personally pass on cheese, etc.

very true

Different reptiles have different immunities. Eastern box turtles for example, can eat nearly any mushroom, and actually retain that toxicity in their flesh.

Good point, Nomad. I actually didn't know that reptiles ate any mushroom to use it's toxicity. Bacteria, beetles, certain plants, sure...

It probably has a lot to do with what is native to where, as well.

We feed button mushrooms. Our blueys seem to be fine.

I believe mushrooms are fine. Mine love to chow down on the ones that spring up in the grass after rain. Mine only get about 1 or 2 meals a week prepared by me, the rest of the time they eat only what they, or I, find in the yard. Snails are as rare as rocking horse poo but, I'm going to have to find somewhere to buy them from or go knocking on the neighbours' doors and see if I can raid their gardens.

I read somewhere that the common garden snail (the introduced one) is the slowest and hardest to breed. There are heaps of tiny ones out there after the rain but the free-range lizards and geckos in the yard get to them before they get to a substantial size. I've threatened to feed them to my lizards but they just run away. Rascals. I did once collect some little ones and tried to raise them, but I got impatient and ended up just feeding them to the lizards anyway. It was like eating a bag of m&m's, they ate so many of them because they were so tiny.

Petshops sell snails but I think they are as pets or for a fish tank because they're about $5 a snail. That's like eating wagyu beef instead of a plain old T-Bone. Too pricey.
