I still don't know....
So once and for all, do alpine botched have pink or yellow blotches? I know I asked this a while ago but I still don't know because I keep reading different things! I know Ernesto is a lowland blotched, but he has kind of orange pinky blotches which isn't much help because some things I've read say that orange are alpine and some say lowland, I'm so confused!
Seriously though, I keep reading things that say the oppisite to something else!

Tiliquagirl: It's not as simple as being determined by the presence or absence of one color. It's an overall appearance and even that is not precisely defined. As I mentioned before, the reason they are not considered subspecies is exactly because of that: There is way too much variability. But most people would consider a more brightly colored blotched to be alpine. Your definition of brightly colored may differ from mine, but generally that's the real difference (the colors being brighter) and not the specific colors involved. My male had some pink on his back and yet he was a lowland. You just have to look at lots of them before you form an idea of what each phase looks like.
Just the same, Ernesto is the best blotched in your book and that's all that counts!

Ok, thanks. I guess I'll just never be able to tell, it's too confusing.
I tried to take photos of Ernesto biting me before but the batteries in my camera are flat again, I really should get rechargable ones! I took him and the others to daycare to show the kids yesterday and Ernesto didn't bite anyone! I wasn't going to let anyone touch him but he was really nice.
Maybe he just has it in for me!
