Goldfields Shingleback questions

Postby coconuttaco » Tue Sep 27, 2016 6:44 pm

Some novice questions about these very cool unique skinks...

Are these ever available in the US?
Is anyone breeding them?
Ever possible to purchase a baby?
I know they are expensive, but how expensive?

Not looking right now, but would certainly be cool to own one in the future, if possible....

Thanks!

They are available in the U.S but they aren't always available and cb babies are very hard to come by. Especially Goldfields! Most of what you will see is imports from Europe. There are a group of people working with them but any babies that have been captive breed are sold between breeders. Im hoping with the popularity with skinks lately more people will start to work with them and well see more of them for sale at lower prices. They are around 3-5 thousand dollars a piece, females cost more and cb babies will cost more. They're tough to find but they are by far my dream animal to keep so Im determined to have one, maybe by next year! :D

I think pure Goldfields will be going for quite a bit more than $3-5K... I haven't seen pure Goldfields offered for a long time --not that I'm actively prowling all the sales sites either-- but the last pair of Shinglebacks I was alerted to where two male aspers --nowhere near the stun-factor of Goldfields-- and they were going for $10K/pair.
If that helps give you an idea?

All I know is that they and cordylus giganteus are the last two reptiles on my bucket list...

Wow how interesting! Thanks for all the info.

They are definitely pretty amazing.

Knowing how difficult they are to get a hold of, kind of makes me want one more

I'm very, very happy with what I have now and am in no rush to get anything else. But if the rare chance one was available, I think I would go for it since there most likely won't be another one...
Until then I'll admire other people's on this site.
