The somewhat lighter "portholes" on the sides and the dusky gray front legs is making me wonder if it isn't an Eastern/IJ cross. Otherwise I agree; Irian Jaya.

What type of bedding is that that you are using?

I'm using coconut husks, it comes in a brick and you put it in water for half an hour and it breaks apart. It's good because it holds musture for days and keeps the tank nice and humid.

Hi guys,
Irian Jayas often have the "portholes" as well.
I know it's disturbing to see this characteristic as we come to see them on Northerns and many Easterns not from the southern region of Australia. Actually many of them lighten right at that area check all the pictures of IJ's again. I've seen many IJ's with this appearance through the last decade so I don't consider it a cross.
Just my 2 cents,
Andrew

I'm only speculating... I agree, really what solidifies the IJ identification mostly for me is head shape.
Most of Zach's IJ's are what I'm used to seeing and the bands on most of his crew and babies are pretty solid and dark.

Head shape is a good indicator but not always true. I just wanted to make sure all the newbies knew this. I even have a few Ijs without the fat heads but seen many without. Lol.

I should have clarified...
...with all of the OTHER information at hand, head shape usually dictates my "swing" of what I think it is. Usually this is between Irian Jayas and Easterns, especially.
Sorry Andrew. I'm not trying to make a confusing mess for you to make right...
Andrew IS quite right, which is why he's here.

Thanks Kyle - I knew you meant it that way.
I'd also like to say that you're one of the people here that truly wants to learn AS MUCH as possible about skinks. Even I learn things everyday. I still don't know as much as I should and will make true efforts to get out in the field to see these guys in Australia. I would also like to see IJ's in the wild and feel that it needs serious work.
No one has gone out there because it's scary terrain out there. I'm afraid of it myself! But if i had the time, moeny and resources I'd go (after suffering a battery of shots for fear of contracting some horrid disease).
I wish I could take you with me to take a look at tons of them - especially in the past. Actually I'd love to take Zach and the entire group to see Tiliqua BEFORE ij's even came around. (I'm still ticked off as you can see.) There were so many more shinglebacks back then. How sad so many animals are just gone.
But yes getting back to the point of this thread - with all the information that you have gathered from your observations about this particular animal on this thread - the head shape does add credence to your final assessment of which I totally agree.
Good job!

I like to learn, that is for sure. Truly, it's because I have been taken by these animals. I want to be the carrier of information to others, and I've already made at least a little impact in town with Rollie and finding other bluey owners. It's my small part.
Between the Bluey Bible and this site I don't think there's a better way out there, perhaps besides as you suggested, going to Aus and livin' the bluey life!!! One day we'll get a group of us together and go house-hopping from all the Aus members here and make a real nomadic ruckus!!!
