I think it's an intriguing idea but "real time" is not the same as caring for your traditional "cyber pet". As I mentioned previously, they generally don't produce the most breath-taking action. You will have to hype it up a bit - not your average person gets a buzz out of the "much anticipated" Pooh!"

Brumation is hardly nail biting either.

I think you have to try to encompass the general (translate: normal) public interest into this software project and some-how make it educational without putting people to sleep.

As I said, educational soft-ware with interest is a fabulous idea but you have taken on rather a challenge with the reptilian world. It isn't exactly dogs and cats let alone alien invasion or cops and robbers.
I do not suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I think you could do some fun stuff if you were able to program it to "hunt" live food like snails or crickets.

That, or get it to flare or hiss if you had a cranky one. :D

Thanks for bringing the whole action thing to my attention guys! I'm starting to re-think this whole real-time thing. I currently have a list of apx. 30 things a bluey could do(see below), but watching it sleep or bask all day would probably not entertain most people. Especially for the animals that like to hide.

My solution: 5 real minutes = 1 game hour. Therefor: 2 real hours = 1 game day, 1 real day = 12 game days, 1 real year = 4380 game gays. In this a skink year would take. I believe this means a game year would be almost a month (30.5 days). My math may be messed up.

Now the game would follow this set up, but if I get a "background herp" program going, such as your herp lives in the backround of your computer, it may be working in real-time. So how does this sound for everyone? Think it would be realistic enough but still fun?

My current list of do-able actions (ones with explainations below are marked with *s):
Sleep, Explore, Dig, Climb, Escape*, Eat, Drink, Bask, Hide, Want Out*, Swim, Bathe, Organize*, Strike, Display, Hiss, Poo, Shed, Brumjate, Rise*, Mate*, Birth, Circle, Wiggle*, Taste, Watch, Fight, Cuddle*, Scratch, Run.
Escaping or wanting out is just the actions where they claw at the door or try to squirm into the corners.
Organizing is where they push things around in their tank.
Rise is where they lift themselves up against something.
Mating can only be done between 2 obviously.
Wigglign is just a little shaking action I've seen Cow and other lizards do.
Cuddling can happed between 2+ herps where they just happen to get into a group.

Help with ideas for my actions? If you need an explaination feel free to ask!

OOhh, what about day trips, you could take them anywhere you want, beach, shops, park, garden time, drive in the car, to school in yer pocket, visit old codger homes{they do it with dogs here},with regards to the shopping you could make a ruddy gert list and get the bluey to choose or you enforce the good stuff if they're picky, he,he

Sounds good, Fatal_S!

That time ratio sounds a lot more manageable.
