BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Ok my blue was going to the bathroom outside the other day and I saw 2 things pertrude out of him one on each side. I think he must be a boy but with reptiles its not like looking at humans. So can I be sure he is male?

They have double dongers brigget so they can have a quick ride from either side,like a scooter that you can hop on an off quick incase there is a truck coming with more teeth and bigger dongers.

So now does that mean if ya see it pee and nothing comes out at all that it's a female? I've never seen anything on mine, and she's never showed any sort of aggression whatsoever. She was in the cage at the store with another skink and I guess they both got along no problem. Thoughts?

No guarantees. They don't always show their bits when they go potty. Plus even boys can get along, though it's not good to keep any skinks together as fighting may occur between any skinks regardless of gender.

Okay! Congratulations, you indeed have a male. What you saw were his hemipenes.

Skinks, like many other reptiles, have dual male sex organs, some believe because they don't know ahead of time which side they will mount the female from. Having two "penises" means copulation is much easier than it would be if they only had one.

You can now say with confidence you know your skink's gender. Many people never get that surety! A hemipene sighting is something many on here look long and hard for, but might never see, even if their skink is a male.

Even if you don't see the hemi's, there could be sperm plugs in their poo so you can look for those too. I've never seen my boy's "parts", but i have seen the sperm plugs

Speaking of sperm plugs, lol. I'm not sure if this is what I'm seeing or not. It doesn't look exactly like what is on the caresheet. It's usually when Wings pees (not urates, I know those), very thin stringy milky colored stuff. But there's never a large amount or clump of it. Usually just a string of it. Is this a sperm plug?

I don't see it in Freckles urine, but then again, I also think Freckles is female the way she does the tail wag whenever she gets around Wings.

Ya'd think the way I constantly take pics I would have taken one of it, but I actually haven't....YET.

Probably not. Sperm "plugs" are pretty pronounced and "solid" in the sense that they're not liquid.

Yeah, I've had Eugene for 3 years and he's exposed his hemis ONCE.
And THANK GOD for that because I would certainly be assuming he's female by now!! Wow, that would not have been pretty....

I've never noticed anything remotely masculine about Jubby (no hair on his chest, no deep voice, doesn't like watching sports all day ) but my vet reckons he is most likely a boy and put him in the system as male.

Aggression or lack of it doesn't mean they're male or female. They can all get territorial.
