Although a huge fan of keeping natural colors natural (especially for the US bluey population...) those are fascinating pictures with an interesting article. I am curious about the "co-dominant" gene they're theorizing... Though it can only lead to "morphs..."

those are very interesting looking skinks, albanism and hypermelanism is what weve been studying in bio at the moment and its really quite interesting...

i still need to find a little more out to fully understand it, but hopefully it wont take too long...

To be honest I didn't read the article, I just looked at the pics. It is disappointed when humans go to that length to make something more physically appealling.

I don't feel like a tirade, but I will say that I have a soft spot for the little black Easterns. And I'm not sure I have a stance right now on breeding the "mutation" animals. I just don't like light Northerns being called ICE MORPH and darker Northerns called KNIGHT RIDER MORPH, etc. Especially when it's done just to make them sound unique when they're really not.

I hope this kinda breeding dosnt become as popular as ball python or bearded dragons morphs...I recon that they look cool but thats not what the real animal looks like...Like with bearded dragons there are like german gaints or somthing and all these ice and fire morphs...its getting outta control

Black-as-coal beauties - these hypermelanistic bluetongues were produced from heterozygous parents.

I like morphs, but not at the expense of losing the natural variant.

Leopard Geckoes are a classic example. Finding a natural example that isn't imported is almost impossible, and they're so cool looking...

I saw a bunch of leopard geckoes fresh from Pakistan in San Francisco at one point, all fairly healthy, but there were no bands, no purples, no "carrot" colors, just dark mustard yellow and dark brown spots. They looked similar to this:




Most breeders are very into making a quick buck on the "next new trend." That is such a pretty face!

i think people need to rethink, i mean animals are the colours they are for natural reasons, hunting and camoflague etc, so why take away their natural beauty just for a quick buck, the black easterns are cool though

Dyeing fish is different than selective breeding.

seems to be a bit of confusion here, these are pure Tiliqua scincoides scincoides. They initially occurred naturally and are now being bred to maintain the morph. There is no interbreeding of other species or sub species.
They are pet bluetongues above all else, that should be kept in mind. If you follow the line of purity in species then all captive animals are suspect. Their purity is only hearsay.
