so i went to buy feeders and what not at the vivarium today and while i waited at the counter i got the pleasure of cuddling a baby irian jaya carpet python, something i've always sort of wanted and past looked into. it was the cutest baby snake face ever and it was soooo docile. me and the employee were so amazed at the disposition of this little baby as carpet pythons as youngins can be a bit wiley. anyway it was only 150 and i havn't felt this attatched to a snake upon holding it since buying alfy there, seriously. but the only way i could really swing it would be to get rid of skippy. i feel guilty just saying it. but for some reason i'm not attatched to skippy like i am my other animals. but then i feel horrible saying that because he's still just a baby and hasn't even developed his adult personality yet. but supposedly milksnakes are forever skiddish. i always said i could never get rid of an animal but then i think it's better to have my scaley children be animals i'm really connected to. the carpet is also arboreal and would be far more interesting as a cage animal because skippy is never out. hmmm, what do you guys think?

I think you should do what you think is best. If you would be more bonded to the IJ Carpet Python baby, then I say go for it.

right now i'm thinking of how to do it without getting rid of skippy. because when i start to think about having to let him go i realize i do indeed like him. it's just hard to distinguish because i'm comparing it to the love i have for alfy and pup, which isn't fair since my attatchment to the two of them is so great.
mostly i'm more worried about another heating element over money or space. san francisco buildings are really old and the electricity situation is so poor in my building. fuses always go out and i have to truck down to the basement to replace it. i'd be worried another addition might make that happen more and also the consequence of my herps without heat for a bit. not to mention this poor outlet/power surge that they are all on now.

Hi Zenny, you wont regret getting a carpet, they make awesome pets, just watch out, sometimes the docile ones are not so good feeders. I have a couple of dozen here of different types.I would be going for a fair dinkum aussie type though lol.Even the misses dosen't mind them.

If you don't feel as attached to him as the others then swap him for the capet python. I wasn't very attached to
Remy and I sold her to get Rocky, it was a little bit sad but not that bad. That mgiht sound kind of mean but I just wasn't as attached to her as I was the others, like I would never even dream of giving away the ones I have now, even though I was thinking about giving away Apollo a while ago, I wouldn't do it now! I'm just too attached to him!

I voted for the first option, but I think you should have both. Skippy is so small right now you don't need that big cage for him and you said you wanted to move right? Well, when you and Davi move you'll probably have a little more room than you have now right? Problem solved! :D

If I remember correctly, IJ carpet python are pretty agressive.... The ones I worked with were very young but really skittish and one of them was pure evil!! I agree with Pike when he says go for a aussie one.... From what I have heard they tend to be much more docile!

As for Skippy, that's the thing with milksnakes.... They are not really for handling... Billy was verrry jumpy and he was about as tame as they get! Plus he was always hiding during the day....

i don't think they are agressive. i think they are actually supposed to be tamer than jungles. this one was the sweetest little mellow thing. i'm tellin you it was that same alfy feeling. i'm so crazy because now i'm thinking i'll give worm back to my friend because i've always felt really bad about stealing him. and i know he would be a good caretaker. that would be better than skippy going to some unknowing owner.
i don't know.
how many watts do you guys think is a minimum on an outlet with a powersurge taking into account that all the electricity here is of the victorian era. because i could stack both skippy and worm on this new snake if the outlet could take it.

I dreamt about holding this snake... he was awfully cute in my dream ;)

I don't know what to say about whether to keep Skippy. I'm having a sort of 'should I get another gecko or not' thing myself. These decisions are really difficult.

oh no don't do this to me!
i feel like worm would be better because then i know who he's going to and i could still visit him. if i got rid of skippy i'd probably be trading him in for credit and i don't feel right about that. worm is my least handleable reptile and he is NEVER out. skippy is a better cage specimen and i chose him. worm is the only animal that i did not research first and make the decision to get, he just happened so...
it's all so silly because i'm so broke right now too. but for some reason i must have him i don't know what it is.
