BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hey there,

I was given two bluetongue recently and im their third owner (I'm determined to have them and be their last owner) apparently the first owner raised them as vegan and hand feed them by giving food to their mouth so they never learnt to seek for food..... poor things. the second owner had them for a couple of years and feed them snails etc but put in a lid which is good so they know to search for food.

Then I got given them, I have no experience whatsoever so it has been a steep learning curve for me. I want them to have a good life and live well... They gave just wake up from brumation for about three weeks. I've also got rid of the heating rock and bought a heating lamp for them.
I found they love chicken and tomatoes. I saw many video that they will finish a jar lid sized meal however mine eats tiny amount..Like literally a few chicken pieces and a couple pumpkin in tiny pieces with one slice of banana...I'm so worried about them to a point I cannot sleep well in the night.
Is it normal for them to eat that tiny??
I also tried worms and to my surprise, they do not eat live worms as in fly lavea...What do I do with that? That's their natural diet and I want them to eat those...
I'd appreciate any advice please

if i were you i would try a variety of different things like
- berries (strawberries & Raspberries are always a hit)
- bacon (unseasoned)
- egg (raw or cooked with no seasoning)
- mealworms mixed with ecotherm lizard pellets (that is a staple for mine)
- wet dog food

hopefully they can develop some good eating habits, good luck!

My Skink isn't really interested in fly lave or smaller insects, either. When I put them in when her food, they usually get ignored, unless accidently eaten. This includes mealworms, waxworms, and bsf lave.
Mine loves hornworms of all sizes though. I could just throw a few around her encloser, and she's goes at them once she notices. If you do this, you will sort of encourage more hunting, as these insects move slow, and are easy to monitor as they move around. Just make sure you feed the right size appreciate to your reptile though, as they can grow quite large.

Other than that, mine is still young, so I mostly give her cat food mixed with natural baby food, like squash, and chopped up spring mix, for its staple meal. If yours eats leafy greens on their own, that's awesome, but mine will spit them out if it's not mixed with something else. Like obsessed with Blueys said, berries are always a good way to entice eating too. Mine likes blueberries, but I haven't tried much else yet.
It's also just fun try everything too because it's cool to see what a reptile likes/dislikes when they try something new. Mine hates apples, bananas, and peas. If she notices the taste in her mouth, she spits it right out and moves on to eat something else, preferring things the squash and carrots.

Blue Tonge Skinks can pretty much eat everything, aside from several things most reptiles can't eat, so just make sure whatever you try isn't on the "do not feed list" and try whatever you want. Every reptile can take to different food, so just find what they like and works best for you.

Hello everyone new owner here. I’m worried about myBTS because she has been eating fine and poopping as well but I notice this on her scales and I’m worried if I’m doing something wrong.
I have her for about a month and it’s her first shed with me, she looks dull and her scales under her tail look fried. It’s been about 3 days since she started to go dull please take a look at the pictures and tell me if it’s ok or am I doing something wrong. She had a heating Matt that is set for about 30°C her inclosure ha a temperature between 25 and 30°C and every other day i spray water to maintain humidity. She is a Sbts not a Nbts.
Please look at the pics and help me out!
Ps: sorry about her butt she had a big poop and a took the pics as soon as she had finished to clean.
