BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Ok, uh I just spent 10 min writing down a post a while ago and I don't think it ended so I'm going to write another one. Hi, I'm 13 years old and own a leopard gecko and a Russian tortoise. Recently, I've fallen in love with Indonesian BTS and would love to own one. I will buy a BTS next September if I think I'm ready for it. Why September though? That's such a long time. Well, there are 2 reasons: 1: I don't know much about BTS. 2: I'm poor because I used too much money on my Russian tortoise and by next year I'll probably have enough to take care of a BTS. I've read some of the care sheet and have a few questions such as:
1: It says in the care sheet that I should use Aspen shedding (Like the snake one right?) but I heard Indonesian BTS needs humidity and I know that Aspen shedding does not contain humidity, am I reading something wrong?
2: Enclosures: What enclosure website should I get it for? I want to keep the enclosure at the minimum which is 4x2x2 and do I need a PVC because those are darn expensive.

Hi there, and welcome to the world of skinks. For your first time getting a skink, I would suggest getting a Northern and not an Indonesian. The Indo's are a much harder skink to care for and require super high humidity levels to maintain them. Northern's don't need all that. I am not sure where you read to keep a skink on Aspen, but I personally don't recommend that. It is to dry for most skinks. I like Zilla Jungle Mix with Reptibark on top as a personal favorite. Both my skinks are on this and have never had an issue. Some other substrates for skinks are Zoo Med Forest Floor, Eco Earth, cypress mulch, or plain top soil. As for the enclosure that all just depends on what you like. I personally like the ones with the front sliding doors. Makes it easier to clean and feed. It also helps your skink to not feel threatened with you reaching from over top. The size is fine. Good luck and keep doing your research. This forum has an abundance of helpful information.
