1 month later hiding inquiry

Hello Everyone,
My family and I are new to the forum. We obtained our Halmahera Blue Tongue Skink named King on September 26th 2023. He's been very sweet, he's had a shedding period in early October, has grown accustomed to us handling him from time to time.
As of a week ago his been hiding more than what we're use to seeing..he usually hides, but if we come around he'll come out and hang by the front of the enclosure..as of last week he hasnt been doing that.
Yesterday i tried to pick him up from his hiding spot and he huffed and puffed at me then went back into hiding. We miss him after a week of mostly hiding and not seeing him. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal for them to hide for long periods at a time?
