Wild Blue Tongue Next to Outdoor Enclosure

Postby Diadema » Tue Aug 29, 2023 6:19 pm

Hi there everyone!
I have a very sweet 8 month old bluey in a large 2 x 1m outdoor mesh enclosure, and they seem to love it. However, last week we found a large wild adult bluey hanging out next to the mesh of the enclosure, and it seems to have come back a few times. I haven’t seen a blue tongue in my garden before now, I was very surprised to find this one as we also have cats, though I doubt they’d go after anything as big as this bluey.
I think it’s scaring my skink, they aren’t hanging out in the enclosure and are just sitting in their hide not getting any sun, which is particularly bad since they have a spinal problem and are regrowing the end of their tail.

I’m looking for advice on how to encourage the other blue tongue to stay away, even though I’d love to have them in my garden I’d hate to have them harassing my skink, but I’m stuck on how to do that without also affecting my bluey.

Worst comes to worst I’ll move the enclosure to a more open area, but that’ll be a huge undertaking as there’s live plants, sandstone and weed mat holding in the substrate and preventing my skink from digging out or anything else digging in.
Any advice would be very appreciated
