Questions about my Halmahera

Hey everyone this is going to be my first post on this site. I’ve had my Halmahera for about 2 months and would like clarification on a few things.

First off, I have not been able to maintain 80-100 percent ambient humidity. There is 6 inches of eco earth, 1-2 inches of sphagnum moss on top, and tinfoil covering about 75 percent of the screen top. Despite all of this, the humidity stabilizes in the low 60s. Further, the substrate doesn’t really dry out which makes me concerned about potential scale rot issues. However, if I let it dry out, the humidity would probably drop to the 50s. Additionally, I feel like his skin is a little dry but I don’t know how to give him the moisture he needs without compromising his health. He doesn’t soak in his water bowl and he hates bathes. I’m thinking about covering him in a wet towel but I don’t know how effective that would be.

Second, I think the temps are too low for him. He explores here and there but mainly stays on the hot side of the enclosure. The temp ranges from 85 on the hot side to 75 on the cool side with the basking rock, which he barely uses, ranging from 90-100. I just changed my light fixture to a dimmer and bought a 150 watt incandescent bulb but I’m not sure if it might be too much for him. I have been checking all of the surfaces with a temp gun and they are all within range, but I’m concerned if the overhead light is too strong. I’m also confused on what bulbs I should be using. Right now I’m using incandescent bulbs but should I be looking for halogen and flood lights?

Third, I want to know your guys opinions on uvb lighting. I used to think of it as a no-brainer but after researching more, I found out it can negatively impact reptiles if used incorrectly. I don’t really have 300 dollars lying around to buy the uvb output checker and honestly don’t see the need for it? I have been using calcium powder with d3 when I feed him which should allow him to live a healthy life.

Finally, I wanted to know if there were any changes you guys would make to his enclosure. He doesn’t seem that interested in exploring it. All he does is sleep in his hot hide and come out for a few hours to sit outside of it. I have a large log and a small half log coming in the mail soon so maybe that will give him the cover he needs to feel safe. Overall I feel like the enclosure looks empty and I don’t know how to fix that.
