mouth question
hello I was wondering is it normal for a skink to have it’s mouth slightly open like this? also for some reason when I uploaded the picture it’s sideways even though I didn’t take it at that angle but if you tap on it it should flip correctly

Re: mouth question
This is one of those things that can be associated with being too hot, respiratory infections, stomatitis, bad conformation or nothing at all.

Re: mouth question
This is his current temapture I always make sure his water dish is filled and I fed him the other day ago he ate all his food minus a few vegetables (he doesn’t like those) sometimes I get worried though he doesn’t drink much I change his water daily to make sure it’s fresh, but aside from the open mouth thing he’s been active and curious as usual

Re: mouth question
Need to check the warmer areas. 74f is too cool for the warm areas. If they are also cold, increases chance for respiratory infection

Re: mouth question
Hi there, first of all what kind of skink is this? 74 of basking side is to low. It needs to be at least 100 degrees. Sometimes skinks will open their mouths for multiple reasons as was already stated. Definitely get that heat up and see if that helps. Also with his veggies, he needs to be eating them. So try using a food processor to mix everything up real well and then he can't pick out his veggies. Hope this helps.
