Open Infection, need some advice!

Postby Balbarius93 » Mon Apr 03, 2023 6:07 pm

My bluey Balbarius has been fighting an infection for a little while now. Vet says it is a Hemipene Impaction. For a while it has just been a lump between the base of his tail and his left back leg. The vet has had him on Naxel antibiotics for a while, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much help. The vet has been able to force out some of the build up through his cloaca in past visits.
Yesterday, the infection spot has broken open through his scales and it looks like an open infection now. I don’t know what to do… my vet says just rinse in saline and that it’s not serious. I’m questioning that… this looks bad. Any advice?

HI there, I am so sorry your poor skink is going through this. So is the skink still on antibiotics? Is he on paper towel for substrate to prevent infections? Is he still impacted? The wound looks like a healing wound should. I would definitely keep the area as clean as possible. The dark area in the middle I am guessing is probably going to fall off. I would keep in contact with the vet that seen him and if you are concerned at all don't hesitate to get him back in.
