Problem with insects need help
About a year and a half ago around 6 months after I got my first and only blue tongue skink I brought 2 rocks about 5 are so inches long and 1 or 2 inches tall into my skink's enclosure, I did this because my skink claws were getting pretty long and it hurt a little bit to handle the lizard I thought that the rocks would help file to nails (it didn't help). Now looking back that was a terrible idea I didn't realize (at the time) that I could bring things like insects into the tank. A couple of months after I realized there were tiny insects black and white (either black or white not black and white) in the tank I cleaned it and removed and wood from it. That worked and there were no (visible) insects in the tank until now. I don't know what to do I think I might just upgrade the tank to be larger and get rid of all the wood in the tank (I can't have a job at my age I have some money left over and I believe that my lizard has outgrown it's current tank). Any advice?

Re: Problem with insects need help
Most insects to include most species of mites are harmless to your skink and actually beneficial as they eat and break down mold, feces, and uneaten food. If you are seeing them throughout the substrate and not swarming your skink (check areas like the ears, armpits, and signs of lifted scales where they embed themselves into), then I wouldn't worry. If they bother you that much, change the substrate, and place any new substrate in a roasting pan to bake in the oven (250° for half hour).

Thanks for responding I have not seen any of the insects swarming around my lizard, I'm still going to clean it I just don't like bugs in the tank.
