New Northern BTS has MBD.

I am angry and sad.
I purchased a 7 month old Northern from SATOO reptiles in Ohio.
He was shipped overnight using a proper heat pack.
I was assured by the sales person that the animal was in excellent health.
I immediately noticed the lizard was having difficulity using his rear legs.
I talked to the owner of SATOO (Mike) and was assured that the lizard was "fine when he left the store".

I just left the veterinarian who xrayed him and confirmed that both rear legs were fractured.
He gave the lizard a calcium injection along with oral calcium to be given twice daily for 10 days.
Also an oral anti-inflamitory to be given once daily also for 10 days.
His heart, lungs etc. were all excellent.
Eating and pooping well too.
The vet's prognosis was that his legs would very likely heal within a month.
Obviously no handling and don't allow him to climb.
I'm an animal lover.
I'm sad for the lizard but angry beyond words for suggesting to me that the lizard was fine when shipped.

I'm hoping for the best.
I have little knowledge of MBD and or how likely his recovery will be.

I don't want to break any rules...but if you're looking for a BTS...I'd avoid SATOO

It's not about the money I spent for the lizard and the subsequent vet bill ..it's about loving animals.

Any insite into how likely this beautiful animal's fractures will heal would be appreciated.

Leg fractures are not necessarily MBD. I have heard a hundred horror stories of things going bad during shipping. I truly don't think they would have deliberately shipped you a sick lizard. Can you post a picture? Would just like to see size for quoted age.

The fractures were NOT due to shipping.
Xrays taken today showed MBD in his legs, spine and tail.

I gave the skink to one of the vet techs.
The vet said she will be able to provide excellent care as well as receive free xrays and blood work.

I'll never buy another skink from a "breeder" without a vet exam first.
Too many immature kids who have no business raising reptiles and then selling them like puppies from a puppy mill.

I am so sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, there are some really shady people out there that like to call themselves breeders. There are really good BTS breeders and this forum can help you find some if interested. MBD does happen over time and should have been noted prior to the animal being sold. I wish your BTS the best of recovery.
