Skink has light and soft scales not sure what it is

My little friend has almost whiteish scales and they're quite soft(I've had him for 5 years now and he never had any problems shedding or anything else). About 2 weeks ago I noticed that my skink had red scales which were really soft and fluid was coming out of it (my first thought was scale rot) went to the vet with him and they told me to use an all around animal skin care spray and completly empty his terrarium and clean it. They also told me to try to give him betadine baths, but these are almost near impossible to give because 1 his back can't be under water without him going under water with his head and 2 this would require a ton of betadine which is a fortune. The vet also did not know for sure that it was scale rot but did in fact agree with me that it had a high chance of being the case.
About after a week when I cleaned his tank he started to shed, normally he has no problem at all with shedding, but this time every scale got stuck and came off one by one. Under the red scale were tiny spots of blood but there was no continious bleeding. Some of these "new" scales are just normal and as usual a bit lighter because he just shed. But others are really light and just soft. If I touch him he also makes his entire body flat giving me the impression that it hurts. Other sides of his scales are really rough and dry and feel like sand paper.
Does anyone have a clue of what I am dealing with, tips or ideas to help him and prevent this for the furture.
Might it also be possible that he got himself stuck between something and that this is trauma?
