U shape... paralyzed?

Stepped outside to walk my dog and found this little one upside-down but breathing. Seems alert but inactive. He/she(?) won't straighten out, its in a U shape, sometimes a little tighter than pictured. I've got him on a cedar plank with a heat pad. Picking up freeze dried grasshoppers at walmart right now. Is this common, like a defensive tactic? I don't want a pet but I want to make sure it's okay... Any advice is appreciated!
