BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hi there! I recently purchased my first skink, and am struggling to achieve a suitable temperature gradient throughout the tank.

It is 90cm long, with a ceramic heat lamp on one end. Somehow, the thermometers are reading 31.5 degrees Celsius on both ends of the tank. I understand I can use a heat mat and/or tile or rock to increase heat on the basking end, however I’m struggling to cool down the cool end. I have tried AC and placing a fan near ventilation vents in the enclosure and nothing seems to be working.

Please help!!!

Maybe change the ceramic heater out for a low watt basking light? If it’s a Wood/PVC enclosure they retain heat a lot better than glass so going for a lower wattage bulb should help a bit. If not try adding more ventilation like more vents or just drilling holes either on the roof or on the sides of the warm side to allow hot air to escape without forcing it’s way to the cool end.
