A toe injury?

Postby Coolcar91 » Sun Dec 26, 2021 9:43 am

Hi! Today I was playing with my northern, Gimli, when I noticed that the middle toe on his back right foot seemed to be bleeding. I inspected it and it looked like the skin was coming away from the toenail. He’s been coming out of his enclosure a lot lately and been very curious, even though he hasn’t been eating as it is winter, and hasn’t seemed in pain at all. Even when I was touching his foot to get the pictures I attached, he was unusually good and let me hold his foot without seeming to be in pain. Is there anything I can or should do for him? He’s on cypress mulch-should I let him go back into it? Is there a chance it can get infected? I have no idea when or how this happened, but he’s been out a lot lately and I don’t see it in any of the many pictures I have taken recently. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!!

An update:I cleaned out his enclosure, replacing the cypress mulch with fresh cypress mulch. Hopefully this is okay for him; I was reading other posts and the consensus seemed to be that so long as the enclosure is clean, it’s okay to have them on normal substrate. Please let me know if there’s anything else I should do!! Thank you!

Put a little peroxide on it a few times a day until it heals.

Thank you for the response!! Do you mean hydrogen peroxide, and in a cream or liquid form? Sorry, just want to make sure I do the right thing and don’t make it worse.

I use hydrogen peroxide in liquid form. Just to prevent infection, he should be fine but a little extra care doesn't hurt!
