Eagerly awaiting to bond

Postby Shorty1212 » Thu Dec 23, 2021 8:16 pm

Hey guy’s any tips or advice to ease the settling in process? I’ve had my little baby about 2 weeks and I’m being very patient trying to give him space but I do sit down several times a day and open the door to the enclosure and talk with him and give him his food and I’ve hand fed him some Dubia roaches a few days ago but now he seems a little more spooked when I try to hand feed him and he won’t take any roaches. I know I have to be patient but any words of encouragement are appreciated lol.

Hi! I only have my one skink, but in my experience just giving them time will help. Mine really likes being hand-fed, especially dog food, which I think helped to get him used to me. I would also suggest that you let him come out on his own-it sounds like you’ve been leaving him to his own devices, which is great, but when I first got Gimli, I would sit on the other side of the room quietly and leave his doors open, and after fifteen minutes or so he would come out of hiding and go out of the enclosure himself to explore(I’ll attach a picture-it’s adorable!!) I wouldn’t go anywhere near his enclosure if he was awake unless I was feeding him so that he wouldn’t get scared, but I would talk to him from the other side of the room so that he could get used to my voice, and I would let him inspect me when he came out. Gimli doesn’t really like being touched, like I know some skinks do, so he gets mad at me if I pick him up to take him out myself, but he loves to come out on his own and explore. I know all skinks are different, but that’s what worked for me!! Good luck!!
