Fleshy Poop

Postby crwn.juls » Fri Oct 29, 2021 2:49 pm

I went in to feed my skink some acorn squash and some leftover Pangea that I had mixed for my baby crested gecko and I noticed that they had used the bathroom, but I saw this first and have no clue what it is. I thought it was maybe a urate at first and got really concerned because it was solid and pink but when I picked up the actual poop I noticed the urate was underneath it. I do feed them pinkies like every other feeding (so maybe once or twice a week depending on the schedule) and I'm leaning towards it being part of an undigested limb or a lump of skin but I wanted to see if anyone else has ever seen something passed whole like that before. It briefly crossed my mind that it was a bit of internal organ or a severed hemipene but they're incredibly active and it's way too solid and lightly colored to be an organ of some sort. I picked it up in a napkin and squished it to see if it was hard or not and it had some give to it - just like a freshly thawed pinkie. It smells the same as the poop does too. I fed them a pinkie yesterday so it was a day before they used the bathroom. I've never seen whole chunks in their poop before and this was a few inches away. Unfortunately I didn't see them pass it so I couldn't tell if they strained at all but there was no blood around it or anything.

Depending on what they eat it can change their feces. It can change the texture and color. I wouldn't worry about it. Probably from the pinkie

Thank you! I'll probably cut back on them for a bit just to play it safe.

I would offer pinkies only as occasional treats.

Is your skink a male?
That looks a bit like my skink's sperm plugs.

Sperm plugs do not have color. They are a translucent white-ish.
