Defensive blue tongue?

Hi, I’ve had my northern blue tongue for about 3 years. I got her when she was a baby. She’s always been huffy but never bit anyone, until a few days ago. My mom is the one who normally handles her because I’m away at college. She’s always been quite grumpy. She enjoys my mom and normally comes out to great her but avoids me because she doesn’t like me much. The other day, my mom took her out and put her around her neck, she does this often. Pandora (my skink) ended up biting my mom on her neck. She’s never bitten anyone before and my mom said she wasn’t acting weird. She came out like normal and my mom picked her up. Now my mom is scared to handle her. Does anyone have any idea why she would do this? And how would I acclimate her to being handled. My mom handles her quite often but she doesn’t like it.
