Hello all! I just got my new baby skink 3 days ago on Wednesday  . The first time I saw "him" in the store was about a month ago and he was pretty shy, nippy and hissy but calmed down when you would pick him up. Then a couple weeks later he was as sweet as could be. He would out of his hide just chilling and would let you pick him up without a problem, he would only hiss a little when you touch his head. So then it came to the day when I would buy the skink, also being my first reptile. He has explored his enclosure the night he arrived and drank water, Now he has been in his hide on the cool end buried in his substrate ever since I first placed him in my enclosure. He never came out to bask, drink, eat, or explore and I mean like NEVER. I understand that new skinks will hide but I thought he would at least come out to drink, so I checked once if he was alive and he was but he bit me lol. I just want anyone to help me make sure he should be fine.
His basking temps are 100-105°F, hot-warm area is 95-85°F, warm-cool area is 80-75°F
Cage humidity is 30-40% at day time and 50-60% at night

I should note that he was around the end of his shedding process the night I bought him, he was shedding off the skin on his back.

That is typical behavior for a baby skink in a new environment, especially one in shed. Post a picture of your skink. It seems that you purchased from a pet store, and while not completely unheard of, most of the skinks sold in shops are Indonesian skinks, oftentimes mislabeled.

Considering your question’s already been answered, I second the desire for pictures. Although... not exactly for ID. Baby animals are so cute!

Its all good now he's just had his first meal, he finished his shedding process and came out. But he is a northern I can tell.

I bought my skink from a reptile store in Deerfield beach, FL at a place called "The Jungle". There is a new owner of the store now and he acquired the skink from a local breeder. If you anyone is in South Florida you should check out The Jungle because the new owner josh cleaned up the place and made it so much better than before, josh is super nice. Its much better then the underground reptiles that is a block down. Support The Jungle because they are amazing, the grand opening is on June 26.

Thank you all for the replies, I hope peace and love for all. :blowkisses:
