Hello I was gifted a skink that was bought from a pet store I can’t tell what skink and the person who gifted him has no idea about them just knew I wanted one :helpme: . I want to make sure my husbandry is correct before full sending his enclosure I have basic necessities right now :kick: and I’m honestly slightly panicking and struggling to identify him. (edit) i am a first time owner and ive done crazy research on different subspecies of bts but being gifted without notice or anything has me a bit in a panic so if im not giving enough info or images please let me know!

It kinda looks like a Merauke to me. Definitely get some more opinions though, I’m not exactly an expert.

That is a gorgeous Merauke. Make sure to get it off the reptile carpet and proper substrate. Skinks love to burrow. I keep mine on Zilla Jungle Mix with Reptibark on top. Knock on wood we never had an issue with sheds. Our site has lots of helpful information. If you have questions this is the place to ask. I have a Merauke and he is the BEST lizard. My daughters adore him. Good luck with it.

im sticking around for a good while someone suggested me this site from amino where i was asking around for help!
ive got him set up nice humidity and a nice gradient from basking to the cool side. currently hes small so i need to keep him in my smaller tank which i dont remember the sizing honestly but he can wonder around perfectly fine in there. next pay check i can pay for gas to get my 72 gallon tank for him. lucky i bought that a year ago for an animal i never ended up getting. i have that pet mat for my beardie of 7 years its easy to clean and doesn't lift up. i got non fertilized soil earthgro because the ingredients were simple and to the point but unfortunately i saw a post too late saying it could be harmful and i currently bought a 40 lb bag so ill have to wait till payday to replace it with ur suggestion thank you by the way was confused on what good brands are safe for them! i had my friend name him and he said he looks like a Barnaby. i wish the circumstances were better but i love him already.
