BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hello! Can you help me with the subspecies of my skink? Or how old you think he might be? I took him to my vet and she did not know and I have no one around me with skink knowledge.

I am a first time reptile & first time skink owner. Unfortunately, I am struggling a bit because I am realizing I got a WC and not CB, when I bought him i was told he was a tiliqas gigas but he didn't mention the subspecies. Because he's WC i really think the person who sold him to me has no idea, and I want to know in case he is a halmahera and needs more humidity.

I'm a bit sad and frustrated with myself because I didn't realize he was WC and I've taken him to the vet and he has parasites, so now I have to de-worm him and set him up with paper towels for 3 weeks. He's already pretty nervous. Any advice on enclosure cleaning during de-worming would also be appreciated.

Tiliqua Gigas could refer to the "classic" Indonesian blue tongue skink Tiliqua Gigag Gigas, which is a subspecies. Indonesia is home to many subspecies of blue tongues, and one of the subspecies is the Indonesian Blue Tongue Skink. I know it's confusing haha. From what I can see that does look accurate but I am still new to this.

And good luck with the deworming! WC is definitely unfortunate but I am sure you will still build a great relationship with your new friend.

He could be a Classic... but then again he could be a lighter colored Halmahera. I have a Classic, and it is difficult for me to tell between them and Halms that are not obviously darker or reddish in hue. Halmaheras usually have a longish dark stripe along the back of their necks too. Classics humidity ranges between 60 and 80% on average, and Halms 80 to 100% Try keeping him at 80%, high end for Classics and low end for Halms. If you give him a good impermeable humid hide (like an upside down dishpan with a hole cut in one end) it will help give him the humidity he needs if you can't maintain it spot on in his entire enclosure.
