Enclosure

Postby BeginnerSM » Sat Feb 13, 2021 1:43 pm

Hi guys!
I’m thinking of rehoming a 7yr old blue tongued skink, he comes with a 6ft plastic vivarium is this suitable? Or will be need a new enclosure?
In the images I also can’t see an source of UVB, I assume I’ll need to add this?
Thanks in advance!

Many people do use plastic tubs so yes, in general, a plastic tub style enclosure can work. I used tubs at one point in time and with some creativity, both heat lamps and UVB lamps can be provided, as pictured below. UVB is a personal choice. Many will tell you it's necessary. I personally don't use UVB so I can tell you from experience, a skink can live 25-30 years without, but I will not go so far as to say don't use it. When using UVB, it's important to have the light unobstructed in order for the skink to receive the full benefit of the light. Many place the light overtop a screen mesh at the far end of the recommended distance, which has a minimal effect for the lizard.
