BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I have an Indonesian blue tongue skink, she got mites about a month ago so I moved her to a separate tank and put her on paper towel while I treated the mites. She didn’t have her UVB light for about two weeks. I took her out one day to feed her and I noticed she had a little bump on her back, it seemed to have formed overnight. The only explanation I could think of was MBD, I went out and bought a now UVB bulb and set it up for her and I’ve been adding extra calcium and vitamin D to her diet. It's been about two weeks and I haven’t noticed any change. She’s been eating and drinking as usual throughout all of this and her behaviour hasn’t changed. Does anybody have any idea what might be happening or what I should do?

I cannot see how this could have happened suddenly. This is clearly a deficiency that has taken some time to manifest itself. This appears to be an adult animal, therefore not reversible. I have seen this before from the result of a fall at a young age or calcium/d3 deficiency. The lack of UVB does not come into play here as most breeders keep their skinks in racks for their entire lifetime. (I do not). MBD (I disagree with the term, I do not consider it a disease, rather a dietary deficiency) is most likely the cause here. This most often affects reptiles at their rapid growth periods where calcium/d3 is not provided and the bones are robbed of their calcium due to accelerated growth the first 8 months of life.

I couldn't agree more with Splashy's post. This is isn't something that will fix itself.
