New rescue with “mark” on chin—thoughts?

Hello all,

I am relatively new to keeping skinks, but not reptiles. A local shop had an owner surrender that they decided to give me to see if I could nurse to health and happiness. She (I believe a she) is clearly a halmahara.

On her chin, she has a bump or nick that appears to look similar to a tooth protruding. It is hard to the touch but my best guess is that it was the product of a retained shed. She eats fine, but has a generally grumpy demeanor and I will clearly be working with her.

I wanted to see if you folks concurred with my retained shed theory. See pics.

It could possibly be mouth rot..? Or maybe it's a tumor.

Being that Halmaheras are 99.9 percent imported, I'd have an experienced exotic vet check it out. Would be in order to do an exam even if nothing was apparent being it's an import. I personally have not seen such a thing.

Any suspicious lump or bump should be checked out by reptile vet. Couldn't hurt to check for parasites as well.

Defintiely agree that it is a good idea to have any lumps and bumps checked out by an experienced vet. Having your BTS checked for parasites is also a good idea. While it is normal for animals to have a certain load of organisms in their system. Stress can lower their immune system, causing a population growth of those organisms. With your BTS going through several enviroment changes, it most likely has had an increase of stress.
