BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

i got an adult indonesian halmahera blue tongue, he didn’t have proper humidity for months, i went on a trip for a week and had someone else take care of him while i was gone, when i came back he he had maybe 8 scales on his back that were sort of sticking up (most of them were in one spot then like a couple single ones) i made sure he didn’t have mites and i put him in a new enclosure just to be sure, a couple days later he shed but the spots where the scales were messed up got stuck. the several single scales that were odd looking like completely came off and are red, for the one larger group i gave him a slightly warm bath for maybe 10 minutes, that made the stuck shed on them come off but what’s left is this hard chunky bit almost like a scab. i don’t know if his heat lamp was too hot and it’s from a burn? because it’s only on his back and the rest of his shed came off well, but he is never not basking( and he only ever goes to the cool side when he patrols his enclosure) so i don’t know. i’ll add pictures but he is sleeping now, also i’m entirely new to this site and i don’t know how it works

also he doesn’t have runny eyes/nose, he’s eating very well, he’s rather vigorous he comes out to bask every day and his enclosure is bioactive with live plants humidity ranges from 65-100 but i’m going to change the top so it’s not screened and keep it around 85

Post a picture. Sometimes they can get bacterial skin infections.

If the problem is still persisting, it's best to let a vet take a look to rule out a bacterial infection.

We are here to offer advice and direct you in the best care for your skink. When you have a pet part of the responsibility is taking them to the vet if they become I'll or have a problem. I agree this skink should see a vet to help diagnosis the problem.

Agree with Janella, we are not doctors here, and with previous improper care the animal could have developed issues that need to be addressed by a professional.

One of the very good things about these forums is that you reap the benefits of folks with long term experience. What makes these forums outstanding is that almost to a person they will still encourage you to see a vet. We tend to ask a lot of our experienced friends. Just think on this if we described a problem and showed pictures to a vet. They might suspect what it is, but they are not going to give you a diagnosis without some hands on inspection and possibly some tests.

i know that being part of responsible pet owner is having access to a vet i read all ur skink pages, i’m just saying i would rather have experienced skink people advice then have nothing at all. i don’t need to be taught a lesson by strangers on the internet i’m just trying to help this gay ass skink, also lesson be learned i got uno response to my problem but once the opportunity to tisk tisk arose the response was plenty pee el e enty plenty sir

If a vet isn't an option at the moment, you can remove the substrate, keep the skink on paper towels, and treat the scales with a topical antibiotic ointment like Neosporin. Note that this doesn't always work, and if an infection isn't superficial, the skink WILL require more powerful remedies, either silver sulfadiazine cream or injectable antibiotics, which typically can only be prescribed by a vet.
