I swear my baby Faraday has stressed me out more than any pet I've ever owned. Always something with this one.
Not sure how this happened, but one of the scales near the base of his tail has been half torn off. No blood, but I haven't seen any photos of wounds or injuries where whats exposed underneath looks like this.
Due to current restrictions in my area, I'd have to self isolate for two weeks if I took him to the vet, but I'm willing if he needs it.
Do I need to clean it or apply anything to it? Will it heal? And my main concern, is he in any pain? He's a huffy bugger no matter what, so it's hard to tell.
Any and all advice is appreciated, thanks!

I see what you are talking about. Looks like stuck or old shed. Has it come off on its own yet? If not a good soak will help or a little bit or mineral or coconut oil will help as well.

I'm fairly certain its not stuck shed, unfortunately. There's a small chunk of scale missing, and then a small hole or indent that dips inward.

I would keep the area clean and apply a triple antibiotic ointment. Make sure he isn't housed with any other skink. Not sure exactly what happened. If it doesn't seem to be clearing up or getting worse I would have it checked .

Yup, all my reptiles are housed individually. He recently escaped his tub, so my best guess is that it happened somehow then? But he escaped into a secure, closed room, nowhere near other lizards or my dog or anything- so I'm not sure how he managed it.

Thank you! I'll keep an eye on it.
