BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Today I found a couple mites on my BT. I know I should use repti spray but I cant find any in local reptile supply stores and it is sold out on Amazon. If anyone knows where I can get it in Canada or alternative treatments that would be great.

Hi, I had a really bad infestation from an unscrupulous seller at a reptile show (never again). By the time I realized the problem four enclosures were infected. I first tried predatory mites. I released vast quantities in the enclosures. Then Jurassic mite for several weeks, then natural chemistry. I liked natural chemistry and Jurassic mite for getting the mites on their body but it didn’t work for the enclosures. The mites have a five stage development in a month from egg to egg laying adults. What worked like a charm was provent a mite. I didn’t want to have to break down four 6x2x2 bioactive enclosures. Provent a mite works in enclosures with substrate. I called them and asked for a more detailed game plan. Remove any food and water bowls and spray the enclosure let it dry out for a few hours. In the meantime I treated the skinks with natural chemistry and Jurassic mite. Vacuum twice daily. In two weeks repeat. In another two weeks repeat. That did it for me. I would have preferred a more natural solution but it just kept getting worse with the natural sprays.

If you can’t find provent a mite reach out to some other reptile people in Alberta. You’ll find someone who has some.

I would try the predatory mites first if I were you (Didn’t work for me but many have had success I think you need a high humidity enclosure for them to thrive)try and see if you can get hypoaspis mites on Amazon.
