Hi everyone! So in the past week, cheerio has gone into shed and has been hiding a lot. Hes recently started to come back out to bask in the morning, but hes been VERY defensive? I knew he was going to shed so i havent bothered him other then some hand feeding and regular maintenance so im not sure if thats the reason since he is fairly new to the family. Today i walked by his cage and he RAN and hid from me, which even when we first brought him home he never ran away like that. Hes also been super hissy even with the most minimal touch. Is this all normal? Just want to make sure i havent gone backwards with bonding, we’ve been doing so good up until shedding started

Some may change their demeanor drastically when in shed, some do not. Many stop eating. Again, some do not. Doesn't sound like he's being anything other than a reptile.

The hissy mood and the fact he didnt want to eat at one point didnt surprise me too much, but the running away like i was going to swoop down and eat him up is what bothered me. Just wanted to make sure it wasnt due to the fact that i havent handled him in over a week due to his shedding and obvious discomfort.

Just to add, very normal. My skink of 20 years gets spooked from time to time and can be flighty.
