Merauke BTS with scale

Postby AVA NJ » Sun Apr 19, 2020 5:58 pm

My 3 year old Merauke just started having very raised scales that are soft to the touch and an inflamed pink stomach, All thoughts turn to scale rot but the advice on treating it isn't clear and with such a tropical species of skink I am afraid to drastically lower the humidity as everyone recommends to do with Northerns and Easterns. I have attached pictures and all advice is very welcome. In 20 years of keeping lizards and snakes I have never seen anything like this before. Getting to an exotic vet is very difficult where I am during normal times, forget about during the current situation.

Remove and trash your substrate. Disinfect the enclosure. Clean the affected areas with an antiseptic such as Betadine, and then apply a triple antibiotic ointment. Do this daily and keep your skink on clean paper towels until hopefully you see an improvement in a week or two.

Agree 100%. Hopefully, with the betadine and triple antibiotic, it will clear up on its own. If not, you may have to take to the vet for stronger antibiotics.
