Help! Is my skink eating substrate instead of food?

Postby Jessiejee » Wed Apr 01, 2020 6:36 pm

Hi everyone!

My northern BTS Kokiri hasn't been eating for some time now.. I asked about it to professionnals and they all told me it was pretty normal if he was brumating. However, I am getting pretty worried.. I try every other to offer some varied food i a separate dish, without any substrate reaching the food, but he still refuses to eat. Today I was watching him and I noticed he pooped, so I was very very suprised, since he doesn't eat..!

Do you guys think he might be eating his substrate..? I've been using aspen shavings since I first got him, over a year ago, but I've never seen him actually eat it...
Recently we moved and he might have been under some stress I guess.. That might be why he doesn't eat..?

I appreciate your help, thanks!

My northerns have come off breeding season now and some are still not eating. Perfectly normal for this time of year. I would make a suggestion though, I'd change to a different substrate as I have had issues with aspen in the past. Way too dry and dusty, even for northerns.
