Reoccurring Issue. Seeking Guidance.

Postby xXxBORISxXx » Fri Aug 09, 2019 8:34 am

Hey guys! I'd really appreciate some input here. I'm not sure what to do anymore.
I've had my skink for about 2 years and they are doing great! Always act normal and healthy. Every so often, I see orange in the urate, these tiny crystals. I've tried a number of things to clear this up, I've read anything I can find online, and nothing works. I've taken my skink to a vet, and done a fecal test, only to find no answers. Yet again my skink has relieved themselves and I see the orange in it! Those crystals must be painful for my skink and I just want to know what is causing them!!
Should I try a different vet? Any solutions I am missing here?
The only answer I could find is that too much d3 may result in this problem. I have used less and less d3 to no avail, so that can't be it.
Would really appreciate any help! Thanks!!

the crystals orange-ish color -is an indication of a condition called hypercalcemia , too much calcium in the diet . This can also happen if you are overdosing orally with vit D3 , as the balance of serum calcium and Vit D3 (and precursors) in the bloodstream can get out of balance and the result is calcium oxalate crystals being deposited in the urates.

I'd have a reptile vet do some blood work on her to determine the reason and take their advice on diet / supp modification as a result.

This happens when using vitD3 fortified calcium powder , I'd get some calcium powder that has very low or zero vitD3 added.

What UV are you running ? type , %UVB rating , distance from basking spot , ontop or under lid ?

Can you post pictures?

What's your setup like?

What're you feeding your skink?
I used to be cool.
