Skink Has Been Hiding For 3 Weeks Straight

Postby bryan » Fri Jul 19, 2019 9:04 pm

Hey guys I’m back again with an update. Calcifer hasn’t been out/eaten since June 30th.

I’ve been talking to his breeder (TC Houston), but I also wanted to get advice from all of you.

He’s a northern bluey born on April 17, 2019. I got him May 29. Of course he’s been skiddish and has been growing more and more comfortable with me, but after his first successful shed with me on June 30th....he’s been completely MIA.

He doesn’t come out to eat or even out and about around his enclosure. The temps and humidity are fine. (Cool: 78, Hot: 93, Basking stone: 108, humidity: 60%).

I seriously have no idea what’s up but it’s really concerning me.

Yesterday I removed a large cork round that was in my enclosure just Incase he was trapped under it. I saw him under it and left some food near him and tried to get him to eat off of a spooon with no luck. So i left him with the food alone, came back with the food untouched and him somewhere else in the tank. So i took the big cork out and added in another small hide.

I’ve been leaving fresh food and water in his tank eveyday but no luck. If you guys can let me know if this is normal or any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!!

Has it not eaten once in that time? Try offering different foods. Boiled eggs seem to entice my pickiest eaters. Sometimes live insects work with the young ones also. If you can get him eating, the hiding doesn't concern me too much yet. Put a couple different options in there and see if anything perks his interest.

After your message I tried the boiled egg suggestion and it did get him moving around under the substrate...but no bites :/

I’m skyping tc houston tomorrow to see what he suggests, but if all else fails I’m gonna go to the store and get some meal/horn worms to see if he likes them.
