Do I have the naughtiest skink ever?!
Another day, and another scrape for Ventress.
Today he has decided to try and lift a rock... an extremely heavy rock that I can only lift with two hands ... with his head.
A tiny bit of soil had got under one side giving him the opportunity to get his fat little head under it slightly.
He has now grazed a few scales on his head... just wondering how long something like this will take to heal and is it a problem?
I have now double checked that the stone is completely on the ground of the vivarium, but may take it out completely until he gets the idea of messing with it out of his head.

Update: have taken the rock out as he can’t be trusted to not be daft with it.

Ven stop giving your poor owner a heart attack! The scales should heal by next shed. What a stinker.

They can really get themselves into trouble. They may be smart for a reptile, but still cannot reason. An object is in it's way, and he has no idea that he can hurt himself if he messes with it. That's why I always say, simple is best when setting up.

Yeh it’s getting to the point I’m at work worrying what I’m going to go home to, he really is off the rails at the moment, I’m presuming it’s because summers finally hit, he’s just hyper and hormonal.
I’ve made his viv a lot less interesting now so he has less to break or move or try and get under so fingers crossed he stops driving me insane!!

Only poo smeared up the wall and round the edge of his water bowl today... I’m going to take that as a win. Haha

Fingers crossed! Here’s a picture of his grazed head I just took!... now he is climbing up the inside of a vertical tube I have in the corner of the room (for him to run through when it’s lying on the floor) can’t turn my back for a second

Those scales will be fine when he has his next head shed.
Give him back his rock , he might have been trying scratch an itch with it or looking for bug that went under it ( but no substrate under it so he can't repeat incident ).
All my skinks have a habit of shifting heavy stuff around, Amazing what a 30g water skink can do in moving a 300g log like a little bulldozer , or lifting it when she squeezes under it.
If I put something in a place that's not approved off , it get's moved by the skinks.
He's just testing his boundaries …. reminds me of George when he was young and goofy.
Boisterous and into everything was George ….
He eventually settled down and has been a sweet placid and gentle boy since he grew out of his silly phase.

My boys act like this every year when in season. I even have a female who thinks she's a boy and would wonder myself if she didn't give me 8 babies this year!
I just keep things as simple as possible.

Haha so I guess there’s no way of calming them down any? Just got to let it run it’s course? How long are they in season for normally?

My northern boys act up for about 2-3 months, easterns sometimes even longer. One of my eastern boys knocked the glass right off the tracks and onto the floor last year. Thank God, and I don't know how, but it didn't break. I have now implemented cage locks. So I think mine gets the Nobel Naughty Prize.

A runabout on the floor in a safe skink proof room helps heaps ….

Lucky for him I’ve been home more in the evenings the past week so he is getting a lot more floor time than usual so fingers crossed this is enough to chill his boots a bit!

Letting them run around only helps for .... well, the time they are running around. Back in the cage, same thing.
