BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I feel like my skink has become very large very quickly and I just want to make sure I’m not overfeeding her or if she may be pregnant. Any help would be appreciated! I’ve had her a little over a month.

That is a nice solid Merauke. It is a little on the thicker side but overall looks good for a recently acquired adult. Where did you purchase it from? If somebody mated this skink in captivity, which this would be the time of year a captive bred gravid skink would be showing and ready to produce, that person would be unlikely to turn around and sell the skink after. An imported skink probably isn't going to be popping out babies at this time of year but not out of the realms of possibility. What are you feeding, how much, and how often?

I’m feeding her every three days, a mix of dog food/veggies/kale and a little bit of fruit. Sometimes I will give her mealworms as well. I got her from an expo and I really don’t think that she is pregnant but my boyfriend is making me worry lol. I don’t think that the people I got her off of knew anything about skinks because they couldn’t tell me what type she was.

If she keeps putting on additional weight, scale back the feedings to once weekly. Personally, I wouldn't be concerned with her weight at the present, she looks healthy to me. Most of these skinks come in looking emaciated so it's nice to see one with a bit of girth.

Totally agree, that's the nicest looking recent purchase from an expo that i've seen in a long time.

When I bought her she was in just a plastic tote with a heat pad underneath and that’s how they kept her. She seems to be doing much better though and she is very friendly other than the occasional peeing on my boyfriend when he picks her up. Thank you for your help though I very much appreciate it.

Yes, they tend to pee on you when nervous, gentle frequent handling should alleviate this. Good luck with your new pet!

We upgraded her to this huge cage from Kages. Since the upgrade she has been so much happier and active.

That looks like a nice big fun cage. what size is it?

This is 48 x 24 x 24 and it seems to hold the humidity excellent. Easy construction too. Gives plenty of room to have about 3-4 inches of substrate as well so she can burrow!
