I have used the search button, read thru everything and I'm still not finding an answer. I need help. We have a halma skink. I cannot keep his Humidity above 50. We have moss in a bowl, the a aspen shavings, a uva/uvb light plus a black uvb light to use occassionally. What am i missing? He comes out moves around well, feeds good. Temp is about 90 at all times during the day, 95 to 100 on the basking rock. We are going to be moving him to a larger tank soon as well. We have it just haven't moved him yet.

Get rid of the aspen and switch to something like eco earth or cypress mulch (Zoomed forest floor). Aspen will absorb humidity. Mix in plenty of spaghnum moss. Cover most of your screen top with a damp towel so the humidity stays trapped in the enclosure. Either hand mist heavily every day or invest in a fogger. Keep in mind when you mist, turn the substrate over so all layers stay damp, not just the top. Ideally you want your humidity to stay over 80%. Look into a humid hide filled with damp moss also.

As mentioned in previous post, aspen is the absolute worst for humidity loving species. I found it to be too dry even for my Northerns. A large water bowl will also aid in keeping the humidity up.
