Stuck shed on head, won't let me remove it.

Postby Taliats » Tue Dec 11, 2018 12:45 pm

So, my Skink has shed today while I was at work and it was a perfect shed aside from the tip of her tail (Which I removed with little effort) and a small patch on her head.

The problem is, she hates it when anyone touches her head and is just squirming whenever I try to help her with the stuck shed, it is almost like it is glued on, should I just leave her or is there any way I can get it off without causing her too much stress?

You can try a warm damp paper towel or q-tip with a drop of warm water, should loosen it. It may just come off itself in time, but give this a try, it works for me.

It'll most likely come off on its own. No need to try to force it today. Shedding can sometimes take place over a few days. Bumping the humidity by spraying the substrate will help.

I'd give it a day or two and if it hasn't come off by then, then try what splashy advised. Paper towels and q-tips dampened with warm water are usually effective in gently removing shed. Sometimes trying to forcefully remove skin prematurely can be problematic and cause abrasions.
