(USA) Safe Airline Travel?

Hi! I'll be moving from Colorado to Tennessee next year. The airline my family has always used, United Airlines, only allowed reptiles to travel as cargo.
I don't trust traveling with him as cargo, because I've heard that it may not be safe. Are there ANY airlines in the US that allow reptiles to travel in-cabin?
I've heard of "shipyourreptiles", but I would prefer to go to them as a last resort because of my paranoia about my skink's safety.
I have also considered talking to my therapist about my boy being an emotional support animal, because he's helped with my anxiety and paranoia due to mental health issues-and just watching him helped me calm down from a panic attack a few weeks ago. I love flying and don't have much anxiety about it, though, and I don't want to lie about it if I need to give a reason for bringing an ESA with me.
