Fastening fake plants in a wooden viv safely?

Postby BlooJay » Wed May 16, 2018 8:00 am

Hi, i'm a pretty new Bluey owner (adopted my 12yr old Northern BTS Sheila a week and a half ago) and i have a concern about my husbandry- specifically how i've got her fake plants attached in her vivarium.

Sheila's viv is a large wooden one so the suction cups that come with these plants have never been of any use, even before she was in it they'd fall at the slightest breeze- so i opted for cable clips! They're the little nails with plastic holders that you might typically use for holding your houses wires to the skirting boards, i had thought they'd be a safe, clean and tidy way of making little holders for my fake plants.
However today, while she was exploring Sheila managed to pull a plant down- at first i thought it had just slipped out of it's clip but on closer inspection i found the plastic clip had snapped in two!
Naturally i was rather concerned that this small hoop of plastic might pose a threat to my skink, so i had to rummage around for it (much to Sheila's very apparent dislike, as she was in the substrate right next to it) until i finally found it a little while after.

I'm just concerned that this might happen again and i might not be in the room, that the plastic may go unnoticed and worst case scenario it gets ingested by Sheila- is there a better way to fasten these plants in a wooden viv or am i being too paranoid over one instance?
I'd be glad of any advice so i can keep my skink safe and sound- thank you!

not sure if you have the "Command" brand overseas, but they're basically adhesive hooks. You can get metal or plastic ones, and they're pretty tough. I'd be most worried about the skink pulling a nail out by tugging on a plant.
What they look like:

Ooh! I've for sure seen things similar to that in the hardware store before so I could definitely get some- thanks for that suggestion, it sounds like a smart idea!
