Sick BTS?

Postby 17Meese » Fri Aug 25, 2017 9:58 am

So I just recently got a BTS about two weeks ago. I recently noticed something going on with his scales. He looks to be duller, he hides all the time, and he just acts shyer than normal, and some of his scales look funny. I'm hoping it's just a shed. I have only had him a little bit so I just want to know if this is a shed or something I need to worry about.

I should add that he is about 2 years old. I feed him high in dog food (no grains, no potatoes, chicken only) with greens and vegetables and calcium powder ever other day and fruits as treats. He does have access to a UV/Heat lamp all day and I do turn it off at night. He does not have a night light.

Yep, preparing to shed. You can see on the tummy scales his pattern is cloudy and the duller colour is a give away. They can be a bit more grumpy, hide away and not be too keen on food during this time. Make sure your humidity is good (50-60+% for a merauke) and you have a humid hide for him, for general keeping but especially during shed. Hopefully you have him on a substrate good for moisture (not aspen). Check out the threads in the FAQs.

Thank you so much. I'm new to this. I have a mixture of cypress mulch and coconut husk. I spray it every morning and night. I turn the mulch every other day also because it does get sort of dry. I am going to get a Tupperware container tomorrow that's big enough for him and put paper moist paper towels in it for a humid hide.
